Reference 3971 was first introduced in 1986 alongside reference 3970, as successors to the iconic and celebrated reference 2499. Patek reduced the case diameter of the 3970 and 3971, making it 1.5 mm smaller than the 2499. Reference 3970 was discontinued in 2004 and could be found in different case metals. Already a coveted reference, reference 3971 exceeds its sister reference in rarity.
